Antal Dorati/Philharmonia Hungarica - Haydn: The Complete Decca Recordings
Wow, $210 on Amazon, 41 CDs. The previous 33-cd box was $55, selling out in a flash, not before I got one. As a complete set of symphonies, it still rocks, and this remaster will likely put the old one down.

Has anyone picked up this recent vinyl box set?

I have the Schoenberg pieces conducted by Robert Craft & the Berg Op 6 conducted by Boulez. I'm tempted to pick up this box while it's still available...
Had it on vinyl in the 70s, now the CDs. I love it and I'm not a big Herbie fan. He does the music his way, of course, so it's not like anybody else. Good sonics.

Two upcoming releases featuring Elgar's Violin Concerto. This is my favourite solo concerto across all instruments, so I am very excited.

The description for the ICA release from Tower Records says that this 1971 live Elgar performance is "superior" to her collaboration with Boult (EMI) or Rattle (Testament). Not sure what it really means as this isn't a competitive sport, but I sure am looking forward to listening to the disc.

I am also very interested in Christian Tetzlaff's take on this concerto. I have heard him quite a few times and all performances were impressive and memorable.

This disc arrived yesterday, and I have already listened to the Elgar three times. Tetzlaff plays with a sense of spontaneity, and the resulting performance is quite gripping. The Adès is new to me and I am still getting acquainted with the piece.

In addition to the music, there are a lot to like in this disc: great sound quality, exceptional liner notes, jewel case... Very happy with this purchase.
